What started out as a simple idea, explain how I electroformed this bead above, turned into a much larger project as I kept thinking "Oh, I should talk about this too...". The result of all this is going to be a longer set of posts than I first anticipated with lots of pictures and my opinions/thoughts about my experiments. So here goes nothin...
Supplies & Equipment- Essentials:
3A Rectifier also called a power supply (mpja 9600 ps is one similar to what I use)
Copper Electroforming Solution (riogrande)
Brightener solution - necessary after using the solution 1x (riogrande)
Copper sheet between 20-24 ga (thunderbird supplies has some good online sales occasionally...)
Copper wire ~10ga, 16ga, and 20ga
Steel wool and green scrubbing pad (local store)
Copper conductive paint and paintbrush (safersolutions is water based, I prefer this for cleanup and smell; riogrande has a solvent based paint)
Wouldn't want to do without but you can improvise:
Cotton gloves (keep copper electrodes and copper painted bead free of fingerprints)
Straight metal shears for sheet metal (cut electrodes)
Metal hole punch or drill with drill bits (hole for hanging copper electrodes)
Xacto knife and some type of small file (touch up paint job on bead)
Liver of sulfur and small container with lid and plastic spoon (oxidize copper and keep smell down between jobs lol)
Brass or steel wire brush (polish bead after oxidation)
Old toothbrush (applying fresh liver of sulfur)
Good to have:
Tumbler with mixed steel shot (also polishes - shinier, more contrast)
Steel wheel for flex shaft/dremel (selective polishing)
Coloring base metals book (volcano arts for great patina recipes)
